Hey gang, it's Thursday, and you know what that means, don't you? No, no, no, Thursdays and Covers is a different blog? What we're going to do on Thursdays, starting today, is highlight something that pertains to the Midwest. It could be a CD release party by an up-and-coming local act, an interview with someone in the scene, a feature on our favorite club or record store. You know, something local/regional so we don't lose touch with our roots.
Today, I'm going to cheat a little bit because you've probably already heard what I'm about to write, but because it's pretty exciting I'd hate to not write about it even if I am a little late.

Now, before I go and try to sleep this hangover off, I just have to ask if anyone has any good Ssion stories to share. I've never seen them live, but I hear that they're, uh, interesting.

The show Erik and I saw with the Yeahs in 2003, if memory serves me correctly, was very entertaining. One member gave birth to a snake on stage! There were lots of costumes and craziness involved. I think there may have been a cow and a chicken. Crazy neon graphics danced on a screen behind them. I think someone from the band designed the Yeahs Fever to Tell cover art. I'm sure of this because the graphics used in SSion's live show were very similar.
ReplyDeleteI heard somewhere that their new shows aren't like that though.
I saw them open for Ad Astra at the Granada a couple years ago... they basically came off as a bunch of rocky horror rejects with music so bad most of the crowd and I went outside for a cigarette after the 2nd song. I've nothing nice to say about them ever since but I have heard from several local artist that they've done a complete 180 and are actually quite good now. =\
